NEW PRODUCTS FOR XS ELEVENS FROM
BOB JONES' MERRIAM CYCLE ARE NOW IN STOCK PICTURED BELOW ON ACTUAL BIKES WITH DESCRIPTIONS AND PRICES
SUPER HORN SET
Our Dual Automotive Sounding Horns seen here on a special and a standard have grills that match the engine cooling fins and are so loud they will think a 5000 pound car is honking at them. It will move traffic like you never imagined a motorcycle could do. An XS Eleven should have a horn as superior as it is. Agreed? The horns alone are $59.95, wiring and clips is $10.00 and diagram to install them on the XS Eleven $5.00. Total for the kit $75.00 plus shipping or we'll install them for an hours labor. Either way you'll love their sound.
Our new after market Front Master Cylinder comes in all black or black/gold. It has a built in front brake light switch and a rotating chrome wheel with numbered positions for various finger lengths.
When used with steel braided brake lines the front brakes are nearly twice as powerful and
controllable instead of on or off. It has a completely different feel.
It's easy to install. Right hand mirror must be rethreaded with a 10mm 1.25 thread for the perch on the XS Eleven or replace the mirror you have with a right hand threaded one that all other type bikes have.
Dies can be purchased at many tool stores or send us the mirror and we'll do it free with purchase of the Master Cylinder. Price is $215.00 with instructions how to install on the XS Eleven. Also Spade Connectors to adapt the brake switch wires to the new assembly are included. Steel brake lines are also available for the XS Eleven from us listed in the accessory area.
New Anti-Vibration Bar Ends and Gel Grips are available too seen here. For the XS Eleven they are altered by us with the right/throttle side having a 3/4 inch longer bolt and a spacer nut inside to let the throttle have the gripping expander farther into the bar end. This insures a free throttle spring back, even with cruise control devise. The set is $19.95 once we make these modifications.
New Single Meter Mount Volt Meter with chrome or black can and chrome bar mount with hinge and 7/8 bar sizing ring. Wiring with clips installed and instructions how to mount and hook it up to an XS Eleven to light up with the lights and shut off with the ignition switch. It not only looks very cool, but will monitor your generators charging rate.
Imperative info. On a motorcycle, most of which are only equipped with two late lights of little use while pushing the bike. The Volt Meter, can mount cup and chrome mount band with wires and instructions is $130.00 plus shipping. Black can is $10.00 less.
If you want us to polish your tach and speedometer rims like chrome. You can send them to us for that. Price is $37.50 plus shipping back to you. We can do either the round or rectangular from the standard.
This cushion device can make possible long rides for people that never thought they could do that. It is inflated with air by mouth into an egg crate
shaped bladder to whatever soft or hardness you like and then zipped back closed. The rubber side adheres the seat surface while the top side material that lets you move about in comfort and air to pass between the egg crate shaped chaimbers and seat cover to cool your butt cheeks. This creates a comfort zone you cannot imagine. With a normal seat you can't find a place to sit on it that doesn't hurt after a couple hundred miles, after that you're miserable and the fun is over. Survival sets in for the rest of the trip. Airhawk can push that back hundreds of miles and keep the fun going a lot longer. Well worth the money. Several guys have asked me why I didn't tell them about it before. Well, now I have. I have them in stock for $189.95 plus shipping. Try one you'll freak and never leave on a trip without it again. I guarantee it.
Here the entire instruments and controls are shown on a special using LTD. Bars. These bars, opposed to the Yamaha Pull Back, will increase the handling unbelieveably. They are $149.95 per set made by Flanders in triple chrome plated finish. They're in stock. Call us with credit card info and we'll send you a set. You won't believe the change in your bikes' handling. Really!
CUSTOM
FABRICATED AND ASSEMBLED IN OUR SHOP AT MERRIAM CYCLE
By BOB JONES
The following pictues of how it is built
and installed with descriptions of what is taking place
is similar to how we do the entire custom motorcycles
like the Top Gun Bike building also shown somewhere
on the site.
This system can be ordered from us the
same way anything else for the XS Eleven is by calling
(913) 667-4663 with credit card info to bill to. We
will then make it if one is not on the shelf already
and send it to you with instructions on how to install
it.
The bag system to fit the XS Elevens
is all basically the same. The XJ1100 Maxim is different
at the top in as much as it has to set out from the
frame enough to give access to the seat latch assemblies
in order to be able to get the seat on and off the motorcycle.
The rest of the parts are essentially the same. The
price of the mount system and the bags is $695.00 plus
shipping. The top trunk is $189.95 if you would like
the complete set. That will total to $884.95 plus shipping
for all of it. The top case can be used on the rear
of the seat or on a luggage rack or sissy bar either
way. The saddlebags and the top trunk both have stiffeners
in the sides and hold their shape even when empty. This
make them look good and extremely functional to carry
things in. The bike is still light and handles like
they were not even there. Several XS Eleven owners have
already bought this trick system and all of them to
date are pleased with its function and looks. Call us
and get one hwile availability is good.

This photo shows
the main body of 1/8'th sheet aluminum in the bending
machine after it has been cut out and now being shaped
for one side of the bag holding system.
The bag support
shelf is seen here at the top and the angle bend toward
the bike is being formed.
Here all of the
main components are cut out and shaped. Ready for furthe
assembly amd bead blasting
Design templates
are seen in the upper left and support struts freshly
cut out and drilled ate laid out on bench
Side view of bag
support back plate and shelf being formed.
Bob holds the upper
attachement plate next to the edge where it will be
riveted via 1/8th aluminum angle to the side plate
Here you can see
how the two parts will fir together.
Bob Jones rivets
the angle to the side plate here first.
Angle upright to
hold the attachement area in place is seen here.
The actual saddle
bags are seen here with the bracket kit abd rear signal
mount piece. Signals are displayed adjacent to the their
holding bracket. Showing how the entire system goes
together
Here the brackets
and support struts are laid out in the approximate way
they attache to the bike.
Here the hardware
used to assemble the entire system is shown with it.
Side view of the
system, hardware and bags for each side assembly shown
together.
This is how the
two main components look as they are made. Three turn
signal brackets are also shown being made here.
Bob holds a signal
bracket after making it.
A clear view of
the signal bracket, which mounts to the license plate
bracket on the rear of the motorcycle. The two small
supports attache to this bracket also.
Here the entire
assembly is seen mounted in place on the SSR/2 proto
type TYPE II. The under seat portion of the saddle bags
is in place. The seat is then installed with the side
zippers in their exact position, so that the bags can
then be zipped to them and set on the shelf at the bottom.
An additional sheetmetal piece is added to this unit
to protect the bag from hot exhaust out of the muffler
just below angled upward or it will melt the bag material.
Each system must be altered where necessary depending
on what exhaust system is used.
Bob zips the bag
onto its holding upper part.
Here the bag is
seen installed in place. LED Marker lights are also
seen mounted to the lower part of the rear bend made
to attache the support bar to the license plate bracket.
The bottom part of it can be used to display lights
as shown. With the signals tucked up snug behind the
bags it makes a very neat looking outfit. Extremely
functional too.
Here Bob Jones
shows the 6mm bolt secured to the bag inner wall by
to large fender washers. It will hold the bag center
to the side mount wall and keep the bag on the shelf
when being jarred on the road. They will stay perfectly
straight and alligned while on the bike and look as
if they are permently mounted. The bags have stiffeners
in the walls and hold their shape, even when empty.
Neat!
Here Bob shows
where the bag attachement bolt goes though a corresponding
hole in the side mount plate.
Bob points two
the 6mm Wing nut, flat and lock washer, which can be
removed by hand to allow unzipping and removal of the
bags to take into a motel with you. Also remounting
is a piece of cake too. Zipped first and then put on
the shelf, reach inside and guide the bolt into its
hole. Finish by installing the flat washer first, then
the lock washer and finally the wing nut tighten enough
to compress the lock washer and you're ready to roll.

The dream sport
touring XS Eleven SSR/2. Most powerful touring bike
ever. What you see is TYPE II with luggage system. Price
is $25,884.95
These hard to find shaft drive and coupler
gears are made by us and available for the XS
Eleven, both models, from us at Merriam Cycle.
Yamaha no longer has these parts
nor will they. Without them the bike will not
be able to move under it’s own power once a
toltal failure takes place.
Until recently it has been a
relatively small problem to have them wear out.
Usually confined to those riders who put very
high mileage on their bike. However, many of
the bikes have been parked and out of service
for many years and then sold to a new owner.
The wheel grease that lubricates these gears
has to be hand packed into them, as the grease
sert that is located at the flange where the
final drive gear box attaches to the swing arm
end is has little if any effect on actual lubrication.
It is located to far back from the engagement
area and fails to get the grease into the gear
teeth. So, even if an effort was made to service
this by an owner it’s to no avail and the original
grease has dried over the years leaving a disastrous
situation. Just as soon as the unit is made
to run and put back into service by its new
owner the gears begin to over heat and wear
at a rapid rate. Once the gear teeth wear to
a sharp point at the end you will have excessive
rear wheel play and eventually all of the teeth
on the drive shaft will shear off flat. At that
point the bike will not be able to turn the
rear wheel and you will be stranded.
The rear or final gear box is
held on by 4 nuts at the flange. You have only
to take the rear wheel off and dislocate the
left rear shock to remove these nuts and the
final drive gear box can be pulled off, so you
can then see the end of the drive shaft and
its teeth. If they are flat at the end of each
tooth they are still okay, but if they are to
a sharp point excessive wear has taken place
and the shaft needs to be replaced along with
its coupler gear held onto the final drive gear
box by one nut. There is a spring stuck onto
the the bolt holding it. That controls end play
on the drive shaft, so don’t let it fall off
and become lost.
I have had these shafts and
gears made and hardened like the originals at
great expense, so that we can keep riding these
great bikes. If you need them the cost is $600.00
for the set. If hand packed every 10-20,000
miles they will never wear out, but once it
has happened you’ll have to get new ones and
to my knowledge Bob Jones and Merriam Cycle
is the only place you can get them. Some salvage
does exist, but you then risk having excessive
wear on them too. Most people have only replaced
the shaft and not the coupler gear as it is
harder to see the wear on it. They wear as a
set like chain and sprockets. If you stick a
new shaft into the worn coupler it will make
a new wear pattern to mate to the worn part
just the same as a new chain on a worn sprocket.
Then wear out immediately.
If you need these parts they
are in stock. Too order call us at (913) 677-4663
with credit card info. And we’ll send you a
set right out and tell you exactly how to install
them.
